800 Pakistani pilgrims stranded in Saudi Arabia?

Daily Times Monitor

LAHORE: As many as 800 Pakistani pilgrims have been stranded in Saudi Arabia after they were told that their tickets had been refunded by their travel agents in Pakistan, a private TV channel reported on Friday.

One such individual told the channel that their visas for stay in Saudi Arabia would expire in a day or two, adding that he had contacted his sub-agent in Saudi Arabia about the matter. He said the agent had suggested that the family surrender to the Saudi authorities, as Pakistani travel agents could not be contacted.

The sub-agent in Jeddah also told the stranded people that they would be deported if they surrendered to the authorities, the channel added. Another victim of the scam told the channel that his family had contacted the Pakistani consular for help but no one had offered to help. Religious Affairs Minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi said he had found out that three Pakistani travel agents were involved in the scam.
